Brief given during application process, 2003
Email is a widely accepted communication channel. Billions of emails are sent daily around the globe almost instantly. Without our knowledge the message gets routed from one node to another, passsing countless networks and covering huge physical distances. This distortion of time and space is addressed by the G.E.T. system:
The idea is to visualize the real space the physical networks occupy and the route a message takes to reach its destination. Therefore a conventional globe is attached to the computer via USB. Actuators and LEDs inside the globe indicate the message's origin, destination, time, physical distance and route across the worldwide network.
What is taken for granted is brought back into the users' consciousness.
